DID YOU KNOW?

According to the ABS 1999 figures 70% of jobs were found through networking?

If you want to progress your career you need a network: the bigger the better. There is nowhere else that can offer you such a networking opportunity.

Why a network for Austalian engineers?

I set up Ingeneers Network so that members (Australian engineers) could help each other become better and more successful engineers.

I did this because I have been in situations where I really could have used the skill and knowledge of another expert engineer, but couldn’t find one easily. I thought this was because of two reasons:

  • Australia’s small size and dispersed population. I think this makes large companies that properly employ a large variety of expertise a rarity in Australia.

  • Engineers in Australia have not been given enough opportunity or help to form large and effective networks that cross industries and into academia.

I have always thought that Australian engineers are pretty good, and that we have the potential to do some amazing things that can help make Australia a much more successful and wealthy country. However, without being able to take full advantage of the expertise that is all around us I just don’t think we can currently reach our full potential.

Ingeneers Network Australia is trying to help all engineers in Australia connect with other engineers and use their expertise so that we can all reach our full potential.

Being an engineer

Being an engineer makes you unique. No one else has that same set of skills and knowledge. The ability to not only see how things work, but to imagine how they can work. This is what drives society forward so we need better and more successful engineers.

So it's good for society if you're successful. It's not bad for you either. But it can be hard when you're an engineer. There aren't a lot of us and not many people understand what you are capable of. Not to mention how important you are.

These factors can make it hard for engineers to find the opportunities that you deserve. And that can limit your success. Which is no good for you or society.

What you need is the opportunity that you deserve to be successful

Being a successful engineer

So how do you become the best and most successful engineer that you can?

The Corporate Leadership Council conducted research into the Top 10 Talent Management Insights. It was found that the success of high potential employees is dependant upon the quality of their networks. It also found that the No 1 strategy for realising employee potential was the strength of their interpersonal connections.

The best way for anyone to reach their potential is to have a network, and the best way to develop as an engineer is to have network of colleagues to share knowledge and expertise.

But it can be hard to build a network.

Not only are engineers unique, but they are also rare. So it is hard to find another engineer unless you work with them. It is even harder to find a lot of engineers.

So what to do?

You can join an engineering organisation, there are a few in Australia. However...

None of the current engineering organisations are specifically dedicated to networking

    • Many engineering organisations focus on a specific field so all the members all have a similar area of expertise.

    • Others have a focus outside of networking and you don’t get a chance to meet other engineers who can help.

    • The people you do meet are often really good people, but rarely people who can help because they just have a different area of expertise.

    • Not many of these organisations hold that many events where you can network.

    • And even if there were networking events, how many of us have the time?

Put simply it is nearly impossible to find an engineer who can help when you encounter a unique problem. We've probably all been there.

Join now and find the engineers that can help you in your own engineering network

You need a dedicated engineering network

That’s why Ingeneers Network Australia was created.

Ingeneers Network has a very simple goal: connecting you with other engineers in Australia.

It is basically a database of Australia’s engineers. It connects engineers in Australia so that they can share their knowledge and expertise.

Ingeneers Network Australia will:

      • Connect you with the rest of Australia‘s engineering community

      • Let others who value your skills find you

      • Improve the standard of engineering in Australia

Why is it ‘Ingeneers’ and not ‘Engineers’?

This is a side note. However, you’re not the first one to ask. So let’s deal with it now.

In short, it is to separate the ingenious (ingenious is related to the word engineer) types of engineers (those of us who use a knowledge of the physical world to solve problems) from the engineers who are machine (or engine) operators.

Take a look at the website after you join. You will see a more detailed explanation with articles on the topic going back over 100 years. This name issue is not a new thing!

What will I get out of joining?

When you join Ingeneers Network Australia you will:

Improve as an engineer

By connecting with other engineers you are able to find others who have the expertise to solve the problems you encounter as a professional engineer.

    • You will learn from experts

    • You will apply the knowledge you gain

    • You will become a better engineer

Imagine the feeling of:

  • Being able to take on any problem that gets thrown your way

  • Being the one with the knowhow

  • Being the one that everyone knows can get the answers

Now imagine you aren’t that one because it is someone else who has the contacts.

Improve your career

When other engineers can find you, you have the chance to share your skills and expertise. People who value your abilities will be able to find you and contact you. It is people like this that can connect you with people who will help you find your next job.

Join Ingeneers network and have a chance at the 100% of jobs that are available instead of only 30%

The benefits are even greater if you wish to change industries. You have probably seen ads for jobs that you know you can do, but they require specific experience that you don’t happen to have. We have all seen those.

It’s hard for an employer to judge someone in just a few interviews. Experience is really the only thing you have to go by. But when you have known someone for a while; that’s when you can really size them up.

That’s how a network can get you from one industry to another:

people can judge you for what you can do and not just what you’ve done.

Find the best people to work for you

As said earlier: it’s hard to judge someone in a few interviews. And how much does it cost to advertise?

When you have a strong network you can quickly think of people who would be ideal for a job. And if they aren’t available they probably know someone who is both ideal and available.

How much does it cost to join Ingeneers Network?

Firstly, Ingeneers Network doesn't make its money from membership. It actually relies on advertising.

However, Imagine having a massive database of experts on call. Experts that can help you do your job quickly and let you get home on time every night.

What would you pay for that?

What would you pay for exposure to people who understand you skills and what you can do? People who can help you progress your career and increase your success.

Think about how much your salary could go up by having access to that 70% of jobs that are never advertised. That could potentially be $10k. That’s an extra $10k a year for the rest of your working life.

Now think about the other jobs you could get. And the pay rise that come with those. All those promotions that you will get during your career because of your network.

Not to mention the pay increase that can come when you move from one industry that is in decline to a growing one.

Membership could easily be worth $100k for many of us and at least $10k regardless of what stage our careers is at. If you were going to get that kind of a return, then you would easily pay $1000’s.

But you will pay nowhere near that much.

Now think about how much other engineering organisations cost. You could easily pay $500 for a yearly membership. That’s around $40 a month. These organisations offer a lot, but not much in the way of networking. So $40 a month would be quite reasonable to join such a network.

But you won’t pay anywhere near that much either.

At the moment you get a number of services (that will be mentioned later) FREE when you join Ingeneers Network. Because the network is so new, it is still in a state of growth. Once the membership is large enough, full membership will be available. This is what you will pay for. Join now free and you will get all of the details. But I can tell you that it is a small one off payment and it is only to ensure that everyone who joins is a real person and serious about engineering.

Join now free and see how cheap full membership is

What else do I get?

The ability to find another expert and build a network is more than enough reason to join. However, there are other reasons.

Feel connected to the entire community as well as your network

The Network site has more than a large number of members that you can call upon for help.

There is:

A blog

Updated on a regular basis by an expert(s) that will provide an engineering

perspective of current affairs in Australia.

You can comment on these blogs to express your own opinion and you can

read other people’s comments to see the opinions of other engineers.

You will be able to get an informed engineering opinion on issues that are

important to the engineering community and the rest of the greater community.

A news section

Including articles about the network and other external events that affect members.

Polls

About news article and blogs that will easily capture your opinion and those of other members.

You will quickly see what the rest of the engineer community in Australia thinks about current events.

Engineering product discounts

Ingeneers Network Australia uses its membership size to get discounts on engineering products. Join now and you will get a FREE ebook on negotiating an engineering salary increase valued at $US25.

In the future, as the network grows, events will be held to allow for more networking and to grow a more vibrant and active engineering community in Australian society.

A complete connection

A network is not just people who are like you. The point of a network is to find people who are not like you. People in different industries and different roles.

Ingeneers network has members from industry, government and academia.

Such connections will allow for a faster flow of advanced knowledge. And a more precise focus on the development of new knowledge for engineering practice. You can be a part of that: the leading edge of development in your industry.

Join now so you can be part of the leading edge of engineering advancement

I am at the peak of my career, and I am close to retiring: what’s in it for me?
